Why are flower prices getting so expensive?

I’ve been avoiding this blog for a while but this recent BBC video on the high cost of flowers has prompted me to finally bring it up.

This year flower costs have rocketed, the combination of Brexit and the pandemic are having an impact on our favourite flowers, for example Lilies. We’ve even stopped stocking them in our daily supply as they are so expensive. Also Chrysanthemums, which we use for our funeral tributes and everyone’s favourites Roses and Lisianthus are particularly high. Plants are also being hit due to extra paperwork at the border.

We all know flower prices cost more at peak times such as Christmas, Valentines day and Mother’s day, but they usually return to their normal prices soon after. We are trying our best to keep the costs down for our loyal customers especially as it doesn’t seem to be impacting the supermarket flower prices, which are always a threat to small independent businesses like our florist on the Barry High street in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Hopefully things settle down and will return to normal soon and we can continue to offer our customers good value bouquets, flowers and plants. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
